1. ‘People's Budget' delivers first round of projects in Richmond (foxrichmond.com) — Richmond residents are seeing the first round of "People's Budget" projects completed, including a new GRTC bus shelter on Lombardy Street and upgrades to parks, gardens, and libraries. Funded at about $2.8 million, this resident-driven program lets Richmonders propose and vote on city improvements, with officials planning to launch a second cycle by spring.
   

2. Facing high levels of benefit theft, Richmond and Chesterfield among first to get new, more secure EBT cards (richmonder.org) — Richmond SNAP recipients are among the first in Virginia to receive new chip-enabled EBT cards designed to stop thieves from skimming and draining food benefits. Because Richmond and Chesterfield have seen some of the state's highest theft totals, the state prioritized them in a rollout that will reach all SNAP users by December.
   

3. A sneak peak at Richmond's Brown's Island improvements with hard hat tour (wric.com) — Richmond's Brown's Island is undergoing a $30 million makeover that will add play areas, drinking water, more shade, native plants, and better accessibility for people with disabilities. Funded jointly by Venture Richmond and the city, the improvements are expected to keep major events like the Richmond Folk Festival and Richmond Marathon running smoothly, with completion targeted by the end of 2026.
   

4. Thalhimer Challenge Kicks Off September 17th (thalhimer.com) — Richmond tennis fans can catch the 33rd annual Thalhimer Challenge starting tonight, September 17, with matches running through Sunday at Salisbury Country Club and Westwood Club. Twelve local clubs and over 1,000 players will compete, with food trucks, music, and finals at Westwood, all supporting the Richmond Tennis Association's work growing the sport across greater Richmond.
