Nonprofit Better2gether hosting Mahjong fundraising event (nbc12.com) — A Richmond-area nonprofit, Better2gether, is inviting locals to a Mahjong for a Cause fundraiser on Sunday, Sept. 27, at The Commons on Maywill Street. Proceeds will support its one-on-one Family Navigation services for families of children with complex medical conditions, with games, prizes, raffles, food and drinks all included.
2. Richmond Associates Deliver & Assemble New Beds with Sleep in Heavenly Peace (thalhimer.com) — In Richmond, Thalhimer associates recently teamed up with Sleep in Heavenly Peace to deliver and assemble 14 new beds for children in need, using frames they'd previously built. The company's Thalhimer Gives program continues to channel volunteer time, supplies, and matched donations into local charities, with hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars already invested regionally.
3. She spent years searching for her father who went MIA in Vietnam. What she found in the jungle provided hope. (wtvr.com) — In Richmond, the Virginia War Memorial is showcasing an exhibit on Lt. Col. Anthony Shine, whose daughter Colleen spent decades searching for answers after he went missing in Vietnam. The display, running through year's end, features his helmet, dog tag, and plane fragments, and highlights ongoing efforts to account for more than 1,500 missing service members.
4. Richmond area native Vince Gilligan wins Emmy for fictional series 'Pluribus' (wric.com) — A filmmaker born in Richmond and raised partly in nearby Farmville, Vince Gilligan has just won an Emmy for writing the Apple TV drama "Pluribus." Local connections run deep, from his Longwood University ties to his Chesterfield County high school years, giving Richmond-area residents a hometown link to one of television's most celebrated creators.
