1. Richmond, VA Foreclosures Could Soon Unlock Discounted Homes for Buyers (newsbreak.com) — Richmond-area homebuyers may soon see more discounted foreclosure listings, with foreclosed properties making up about 0.20% of local listings and often selling at steep markdowns. While overall prices remain high around $450,000, recent data show foreclosed homes selling for over 27% below estimated value, offering both opportunities and risks for buyers navigating the city's affordability crunch.
2. 9 Hondas stolen in Richmond in one week, most from Woodland Heights (nbc12.com) — Richmond police are warning drivers after nine Hondas were stolen in just one week, most from the Woodland Heights neighborhood and nearby areas. Victims describe thieves possibly using electronic devices to capture key fob signals, prompting residents to hide keys in Faraday boxes and microwaves as detectives investigate and urge people to add steering wheel locks and other protections.
3. Richmond plans 700+ intersection safety improvements as part of Vision Zero initiative; Community reacts (wtvr.com) — Richmond is rolling out more than 700 safety upgrades at intersections citywide, with the first 350 changes starting this fall under its Vision Zero plan. Expect slower, more controlled left turns, brighter crosswalks, and clearer signs, especially in high-crash areas like 24th and Main, as officials try to better protect pedestrians, drivers, and bus riders.
4. A new season at UPSem: Enrollment grows 45% (pres-outlook.org) — Union Presbyterian Seminary's Richmond campus is launching a new weekday hybrid program as part of a 45% jump in new students this fall, bringing more theological training activity to the city. Students from 13 states and five countries will study through flexible in-person residencies and online coursework, alongside a residential Community Scholars program based in Richmond.
5. Richmond first responders train for mass casualty event at VCU (wtvr.com) — Hundreds of Richmond-area first responders and hospital staff just ran a large-scale disaster drill at VCU's Siegel Center, practicing how they'd handle a fictional bleacher collapse during a VCU–University of Richmond game. The exercise stressed evacuation, triage, hospital surge capacity, and inter-agency communication, with another round planned Friday to refine campus operations and family reunification plans.
