• Virginia's First Adult High School Expands as Staff Train for Accelerated Classroom (theroanokestar.com) — Roanoke's Excel Center, Virginia's first adult high school, is gearing up for year two with more seats for local learners and a bigger teaching staff. The Goodwill-run school compresses semesters into eight weeks and builds in childcare, transportation, and coaching so adults can juggle jobs and family. Leaders say they're still hiring teachers and expect enrollment to grow from 50 to 75.
• Federal judge denies hemp entrepreneurs' request to overturn Virginia's new THC limit – Mountain Media, LLC (salemtimes-register.com) — A federal judge in Roanoke has refused hemp entrepreneurs' request to pause Virginia's new 2-milligram THC-per-package limit, keeping the stricter rule in place for now. The court found the businesses hadn't shown enough harm, while industry leaders are urging lawmakers and regulators to reconsider the change and enforcement approach statewide.
• Dozens of Virginia residents pack library to fight Flock's growing surveillance network (thecooldown.com) — Roanoke-area residents packed South County Library to protest Flock Safety license plate cameras, which now number at least 27 across city roads. Many locals say the system feels like constant tracking and "government overreach," while Roanoke's police chief defends the technology as a useful investigative tool with access limits and audits in place.
