Nominate the 2026 citizen of the year in Roanoke (roanoke.com) — Roanoke residents can now nominate a neighbor for the 2026 Citizen of the Year award, recognizing outstanding service and leadership that improve life in the city. Nominations are open through 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30, with paper submissions accepted at the City Clerk's Office in the Noel C. Taylor Municipal Building.

Popular Roanoke food reviewer turned prison time into a mission to build up better men (wdbj7.com) — A Roanoke food reviewer has turned his online following and personal struggles into The Forge, a men's group meeting in the City Market Building downtown. He's inviting local men to join gatherings tonight at 7 and tomorrow at 11, focused on support, faith, and becoming better fathers, friends, and community members.
3. Hispanic Heritage Month: Williamson Road in Roanoke is home to dozens of international businesses (wfxrtv.com) — Williamson Road in Roanoke has become a four-mile stretch packed with 48 international businesses, giving locals a chance to "travel the world" without leaving the Star City. From Afghani and Cuban spots to Taco Riendo's popular quesabirria, the corridor showcases growing diversity and small-business success rooted right in your neighborhood.
4. Empowering Roanoke families through Casa Latina (wfxrtv.com) — Roanoke families facing food insecurity and language barriers are finding vital support through Casa Latina, based at Williamson Road Church of the Brethren. The nonprofit offers groceries plus translation and document help, aiming to shift responsibilities from children back to adults and empower more than 400 local Latino families toward greater independence.
5. Roanoke County Data Center Authority Is Freed From NDA but Keeps Clearview's Owner Private (theroanokestar.com) — A regional authority overseeing Wood Haven Technology Park in Roanoke County is no longer under a nondisclosure agreement with Clearview Dynamics, the company exploring a data center there, but still won't reveal its parent owner. Officials say confidentiality is needed while feasibility studies continue, promising more specific updates within about 120 days on this closely watched Roanoke Valley project.
