Olde Salem Days returns for 46th year (salemtimes-register.com) — Olde Salem Days is back this Saturday, Sept. 12, turning downtown Salem into a huge outdoor arts-and-crafts bazaar from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. With free admission, shuttles from the Salem Civic Center, 300-plus vendors, food trucks, live music, and an auto show, it's a full day for families while supporting Rotary-led charitable causes.
2. Salem Chamber to host inaugural State of the City breakfast (salemtimes-register.com) — Salem residents and business owners can hear directly from Mayor Renee Turk about the city's growth, infrastructure, and economic development at the inaugural State of the City breakfast on Sept. 22 at the Salem Civic Center. The $35 event includes networking, a presentation on recent projects and future plans, and a chance to ask questions about Salem's direction and quality of life.
3. Caldwell, Shanista Ling (nrvnews.com) — Salem is mourning the loss of 39-year-old Shanista Yvonne Ling Caldwell, remembered for her humor, warmth, and ability to brighten any room. Family and friends can honor her life at a gathering on Sept. 11 at Wilson Cemetery in Check, with donations to Gardner Funeral Home requested in lieu of flowers to help with expenses.
4. Virginia for Veterans: Jobs, Benefits & Best Cities (gijobs.com) — Veterans in Salem and Roanoke get a special nod here, with the Salem VA Medical Center and lower housing costs making the region a standout option in Virginia.
