Man Arrested Following Shooting in South Boston (wakg.com) β A weekend shooting at Seymour Drive and Marshall Avenue left two people injured and led to the arrest of a Halifax County man on a malicious wounding charge, according to South Boston Police. One victim was flown to Roanoke for treatment, and investigators recovered multiple shell casings near 1633 Seymour Drive. Anyone with information is urged to contact South Boston Police.

2. 10,000 strong: broadband comes to rural Southside (sovanow.com) β South Boston hosted a celebration marking EMPOWER Broadband's 10,000th subscriber, a milestone in bringing high-speed internet to rural parts of Halifax, Mecklenburg and nearby counties. Officials highlighted how the new fiber network, backed by state and federal funding, is transforming education, work, health care and business opportunities for thousands of Southside residents.

Man Arrested for Chase Involving Gunfire that Ended in South Boston (wakg.com) β A multi-jurisdictional police chase involving a stolen vehicle and gunfire ended in South Boston, where local officers used stop sticks and took over the pursuit before the car was found abandoned. The suspect, wanted in several investigations, has now been arrested and faces a long list of serious charges, including attempted first-degree murder and weapons offenses.

Smartphone app deployed for Clarksville downtown development (sovanow.com) β A new BOOMS pilot project is helping Clarksville map downtown properties and plan future housing and business growth, using a smartphone-based tracker to catalog vacancies and opportunities. South Boston is one of several Southern Virginia communities also involved, positioning local leaders to attract developers, seek grants, and better match retail and housing to residents' needs.

Daniel Corbett Wagner (sovanow.com) β Family and friends in the South Boston area are invited Saturday to honor Army First Sergeant Daniel Corbett Wagner, with visitation at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home, a graveside service in Crystal Hill, and a fellowship meal at Four Oaks Restaurant on Seymour Drive. The obituary remembers his long military service, love of family, and dedication to mentoring soldiers and supporting Tunnel to Towers.
