• South Hill withholds funding for traffic study after speakers raise objections (sovanow.com) — South Hill's Town Council has hit pause on paying more than $575,000 toward a VDOT engineering study for Route 58 and Country Lane, after residents and truckers blasted the proposed traffic changes as unsafe and business-unfriendly. Council also moved ahead with plans to borrow $24 million for a new police headquarters and major sewer work, and to buy two damaged downtown properties for future use.
   

• Truck overturns, driver airlifted after extrication (sovanow.com) — A tractor-trailer driver from North Carolina was seriously hurt Wednesday when his rig hit overhead wires and overturned on Redlawn Road near Highway 1. South Hill Volunteer Fire Department crews had to cut him free before he was airlifted to a hospital, and state police say charges are pending as they continue investigating the crash.
