VIENNA, VA—President Trump showed up at McLean Bible Church unannounced Sunday after a morning at his golf club in Sterling.
According to The Hill, the White House stated Trump's visit focused on praying for the victims of the shooting that killed 12 victims Friday, May 31 at the Virginia Beach Municipal Center. The president's visit did not include remarks, but he stood on stage with pastor David Platt, who led a prayer.
The visit followed Franklin Graham and other Christian leaders asking that Sunday, June 2 be a "day of prayer" for Trump.
The May 31 mass shooting in Virginia Beach is believed to be the worst in the United States so far this year and the worst in Virginia Beach history. The president requested flags be flown at half-staff through sunset on June 4. He tweeted in response to the shooting the morning after and said he'd been in contact with Virginia leaders.
