VIENNA, VA — Amphora Restaurant, a longtime restaurant and the first of the Amphora Group, will close on Jan. 12.
The restaurant made the announcement on Facebook, leading many patrons to share their memories over the years. That goes to show the impact the restaurant has made over 44 years.
"We have celebrated your engagements, birthdays, graduations, and athletic achievements," reads the Facebook post from Amphora. "Couples have met here and returned to renew their vows. Children have grown up here and have come back with their own children. It’s impossible to put into words what this place has meant to so many."
Founded in 1977 by the Cholakis and Bilidas families, Amphora Restaurant began offering a mix of international and American cuisine for 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Since then, Amphora Group has grown to include Amphora Diner Deluxe in Herndon, Amphora Bakery and Amphora Catering. Those operations will remain open after Amphora Restaurant closes.
A reason for the closure was not specified in the announcement. The families thanked customers for their support over the years and invited them to dine during the last week or "come to say goodbye to our treasured landmark."
"To our regulars, guests, and long time supporters, we appreciate every single person who walked through that door," the post reads. "The love and support we’ve received has been truly remarkable, and we will carry that energy in our continued operations at Amphora’s Diner Deluxe in Herndon, Amphora Bakery and Amphora Catering."
