VIENNA, VA – The Matchbox restaurant chain's Mosaic district location is closed and a new restaurant is already slated for the site, according to a social media report.
Matchbox Mosaic's last day was Aug. 16, according to an observer in the Vienna Foodies Facebook group.
Replacing it will be a Makers Union location, according to the restaurant's website. It lists a location at 2911 District Ave. as coming soon and is currently offering discounts for early customers.
Matchbox specialized in wood-fired pizzas and has locations around Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia. Makers Union offers American favorites, including for brunch, along with menu items inspired by other cuisines. It positions itself as a family-friendly gathering place welcoming to large groups. Makers Union has locations around Northern Virginia and in the District of Columbia, with its newest location in Sterling.
Both are part of the region's Thompson Restaurant Group.
