Vienna Clears Way For New AT&T Cell Tower To Improve Coverage: Report

A new AT&T rooftop facility could improve wireless coverage in several locations in Vienna.

VIENNA, VA — A new AT&T rooftop telecommunications facility could improve wireless service along Vienna's Maple Avenue corridor, where residents and businesses have reported longstanding problems with weak coverage and dead zones, FFXnow reported.

The Vienna Town Council voted unanimously on Monday to allow screening for the facility at 527 Maple Ave. E. to extend above the height permitted under town zoning rules. The project will include three antenna arrays on a building that already hosts equipment from Verizon and T-Mobile, according to the report.

AT&T said the facility should improve coverage near James Madison High School, Cunningham Park Elementary School and several parks and recreation facilities.

Town staff also plans to present a possible zoning amendment next month that could streamline reviews of future wireless projects.
