VIENNA, VA – The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors has approved a plan to build more than 260 apartments near the Vienna Metro Station, according to a new report.
The Washington Business Journal reports that the board voted unanimously to approve the plan, which includes 269 apartments, ground-floor retail, a childcare center, a playground and a private courtyard. Twenty-seven of the units will be designated as affordable housing.
The project, from developer Peterson Companies, will bring the first non-age-restricted rental units to Metro West, which sits just south of the Vienna Metro.
The approval has been a long time coming, as Patch previously reported that residents were promised retail development in the area more than 15 years ago.
Other housing options, including assisted living and age-restricted rentals, have been established at Metro West over the past decade.
