VIENNA, VA – Vienna's Chef Tan restaurant was named one of the 40 best in the DC area by the Washington Post.
The Hunan-Szechuan specialists came in at number 35 on the Washington Post's new dining guide.
Chef Tan, which opened in July 2025, describes itself as a network of kitchens, rather than a single restaurant. Since the first location opened in New Jersey in 2007, Chef Tan's cooks, who the restaurant says mostly come from Hunan, rotate among locations, "helping open new ones so the cooking stays true to Hunan and Szechuan roots in every kitchen."
It was one of two Chinese restaurants to make the list, alongside Fairfax neighbor Mama Chang.
The Post lists the Hengyang-style rice noodles, century egg with chili and eggplant, stir-fried fried fish, stir-fried chicken with ginger, Hunan-style sliced lamb, spicy-sour river snails and cauliflower with pork as its don't-miss dishes.
Chef Tan's small dishes start at $5.99 and larger dishes run from $15.99–$108.
