VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – Members of a group inspired by the Black Panthers marched through the Virginia Beach Oceanfront area on Saturday, a week after a group widely condemned as White nationalists did the same.
According to WAVY, a group of about a dozen members of the Original Black Panther Party, whose Virginia chapter was founded in 2018, demonstrated along 31st Street on Saturday. Their event was a response to the Memorial Day weekend march by the group Patriot Front, which carried flags associated with the Confederacy of the U.S. Civil War.
The OBPP usually operates in high-crime neighborhoods, a representative told WAVY, but wanted to publicly demonstrate near where Patriot Front had marched to show area residents that they don’t have to be intimidated by hate groups.
