A Winchester man is in custody after attacking two men with a pool cue (theriver953.com) β Winchester Police arrested 53-year-old Daniel Shadwell after a late-night fight at Cork Street Tavern in which two men were struck on the head with a pool cue. Shadwell, who claims self-defense, faces malicious wounding and drunk-in-public charges and is being held without bond at Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center.

Valley Health unveils mobile mammography unit (nvdaily.com subscription) β A new Shoemaker Mobile Mammography Unit, unveiled at Winchester Medical Center, will soon bring breast cancer screenings directly to workplaces, churches, and community sites across the region. Staffed by Valley Health technicians and using hospital-grade 3D imaging, the unit aims to boost screening rates by removing transportation and scheduling barriers for local women.

'It's time to slow down': Bowman Library employee retiring at age 96 (nvdaily.com) β A 96-year-old Bowman Library staffer is retiring this Friday after four decades with the Winchester-based Handley Regional Library System, including years at the downtown branch and Apple Blossom Mall location. June Norwood, who moved to Winchester in 1986, plans to stay active as a Bowman patron while colleagues honor her service with a farewell luncheon.
