1. A multi-jurisdictional chase ends with the arrest of a Culpeper man (theriver953.com) — Winchester police first spotted wanted fugitive Daniel Quinn on Berryville Avenue, sparking a multi-jurisdictional chase that moved from Interstate 81 through Frederick and Fauquier counties. Winchester officers later obtained several warrants, including felony eluding, while state and county agencies continued the pursuit, used spike strips, and ultimately arrested Quinn without injuries or major damage to law enforcement vehicles.
2. Planning Commission recommends denial of Winchester Gateway data center (nvdaily.com) — Frederick County's Planning Commission has unanimously recommended denying the Winchester Gateway data center complex just south of Winchester and backed an ordinance to remove data centers from all county zoning districts. Both the permit and zoning changes now go to the Board of Supervisors, with public hearings set for Sept. 23 that could shape future data center development around Winchester.
3. Heven AeroTech Opens Hydrogen UAS Facility in Virginia (executivebiz.com) — A hydrogen-powered drone manufacturer, Heven AeroTech, has opened a 56,000-square-foot production facility in Winchester, creating its first East Coast manufacturing site. The plant will build the company's Z1 drones, serve as a model for future locations nationwide, and is expected to drive new local hiring in manufacturing, quality, operations, and supply chain roles.
4. Apple Blossom Donates $4K to Patsy Cline Theater Renovation (thewinchestergazette.com) — Winchester residents will see progress toward renovating the historic Patsy Cline Theater at John Handley High School, thanks to a $4,000 gift from the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival. The donation buys a named row of seats and supports the Winchester Education Foundation's Community Comfort Campaign, which invites locals and businesses to sponsor seats or contribute online to upgrade seating and carpeting.
5. NSVRC puts $4.2 million on table for rural health care (nvdaily.com) — Regional planners are offering $4.2 million to expand rural health care in nearby Clarke, Warren, Shenandoah, and Page counties, all within the Northern Shenandoah Valley region that includes Winchester. Local nonprofits, health systems, and community groups can apply by Sept. 18 for projects like mobile clinics or telehealth that improve access, potentially benefiting Winchester-area residents who rely on regional providers.
