2. Medical Cannabis Dispensary Opens in Virginia's Health Service Area 1 (virginia.gov) โ Medical cannabis patients in and around Winchester now have a local option with the opening of Ayr Virginia, the first dispensary in Health Service Area 1. The vertically integrated facility cultivates, produces, and dispenses regulated products, and is authorized to open additional locations that will expand access across the Shenandoah Valley and nearby regions.

3. 2026 Master Design Awards: Old-House Renovation โ GOLD (qualifiedremodeler.com) โ A Winchester-based firm, Reader & Swartz Architects, just earned a national gold award for transforming historic White House Farm in nearby Charles Town, West Virginia. Their $1.3 million renovation carefully removed a 1950s addition, added a greenhouse-style kitchen and new primary suite, and blended modern comforts with the home's 18th-century character and garden views.

Commonwealth's attorney: Deadly force 'justified' in Page County officer-involved shooting (whsv.com) โ Winchester's Commonwealth's Attorney's Office, acting as special prosecutor, has ruled that deputies' use of deadly force in a June officer-involved shooting in Stanley was justified. After reviewing state police evidence and body camera footage, prosecutors concluded deputies faced an imminent threat when a woman pointed a handgun at them following hours of crisis negotiations.
