Today's riddle: Who's in favor of bringing back Roman Numerals? 🤔 (Answer below!)
• Data centers stripped as allowable use (nvdaily.com) — Frederick County supervisors have voted 6–1 to strip data centers as an allowed use, but they're letting two existing proposals, including the Winchester Gateway campus in Kernstown, proceed to public hearings by Oct. 28. For Winchester-area residents, this decision could shape nearby land use, noise, and power demand, and it sets up a key debate just days before November's special elections.
• WPS secures $17 million grant for Quarles expansion (theriver953.com) — Winchester Public Schools has secured a $17.38 million state grant to help fund the Garland R. Quarles Elementary and Early Learning Center project, the largest effort in its 10-year plan. City of Winchester residents will also vote this November on additional capital funding, as the division faces about $135 million in school facility needs over the next decade.
• Woman Charged with Murder, Arson in Harpers Ferry House Fire (thewinchestergazette.com) — A Harpers Ferry woman has been charged with murder and arson nearly a year after a house fire killed her husband and daughter, according to West Virginia State Police. For Winchester-area readers following regional crime, investigators say evidence shows the victims died before the fire, and the case now moves forward with the suspect held without bond.
