• Winchester Council Rejects Proposal of Shrinking Its Size (thewinchestergazette.com) — Winchester City Council has decided not to pursue shrinking its nine-member body, keeping the current structure of eight ward representatives and an at-large mayor. Members instead signaled support for consolidating committee work into full-council Tuesday sessions starting in 2027, aiming to make meetings more accessible for working residents and streamline how issues like finance, safety, and planning are handled.
   

• Staunton District Traffic Alert for September 28 – October 2, 2026 (virginia.gov) — Drivers in and around Winchester should expect single-lane closures on Route 7 between Ross Street and Burnt Factory Road and overnight lane closures on Route 340/522 (Winchester Road) near Front Royal this week. VDOT's Staunton District list details numerous work zones across Frederick, Clarke, Warren, and neighboring counties, with pavement marking, bridge work, and safety improvements that could significantly slow regional commutes.
