Man Killed In Dumfries Basketball Court Shooting Identified: Update
An 18-year-old was fatally shot and several people from Woodbridge and Dumfries suffered gunshot wounds at a basketball court, police said.
DUMFRIES, VA — Police have released the name of an 18-year-old man who was fatally shot and several others were injured in a shooting at a basketball court in Dumfries.
Prince William County police said Louis Anthony Boone, of Dumfries died in a shooting. The investigation into what led up to the initial altercation and the shooting between the parties involved remains active.
Four others suffered gunshot wounds: a 20-year-old man from Woodbridge, a 16-year-old boy from Dumfries, and two 17-year-old boys, both of Woodbridge.

The shootings occurred around 5:30 p.m. Monday at an outdoor recreational area located in the 1800 block of Potomac Shores Parkway in Dumfries.
According to police, several people were playing basketball on a nearby court when another group arrived. During the encounter, police said a confrontation ensued between the arriving group and some of the individuals previously on the court.

At one point, police said shots were fired, prompting everyone to leave the area.
According to police, responding officers arrived at the scene following the shooting and found a person with a gunshot wound. As the investigation progressed, another injured person was located at a nearby home on Spring Cress Drive. At the same time, police said three others had taken themselves to nearby hospitals. Police later determined that they were connected to the initial incident.
Detectives are still working to determine who played what role in the encounter and what led up to the shooting. Preliminarily, police said the incident does not appear to be random.
