WOODBRIDGE, VA — A 13-year-old girl from Woodbridge faces charges after she was accused of threatening Rippon Middle School on social media earlier this week, according to a report from the Prince William County Police Department.

The threats were reported to authorities around 11 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 2. Through an investigation, officers determined that the girl posted threats of violence towards the school on a social media platform.

Other students received the messages of violence and informed family members, who contacted the police department. A school resource identified the girl who was responsible for the threats on Thursday. Authorities have not publicly identified the teen due to Virginia laws designed to protect the identities of minors.

Police officials said that the threats of violence were not credible.

The case will be handled through the county's juvenile court services department. The teen is charged with one count of threats of death or bodily injury.
