95 Express Lanes 1,000 Trees in 1,000 Days Program Completed
Final trees through the 1,000 Trees in 1,000 Days program planted in November 2014.

Transurban has a long-term commitment to the communities in which they live, work and operate. During construction of the 95 Express Lanes, Transurban and its design-build partner Fluor started the 1,000 Trees in 1,000 Days program in order to return some of the greenery to the area and give back to the communities surrounding the I-95 corridor.
The 95 Express Lanes introduced congestion relief and new travel choices to the I-95 corridor. While project partners Transurban-Fluor did everything possible to minimize impacts, construction of the project required the removal of trees and brush from VDOT right-of-way. Project partners got to work immediately and introduced the 1,000 Trees in 1,000 Days program. Tree planting began in the fall of 2012, and applications were accepted and trees were awarded throughout the 29-month 95 Express Lanes construction schedule. The final trees were planted in November 2014 – allowing them to reach their commitment of 1,000 trees in 1,000 days.
Transurban-Fluor partnered with 17 organizations and communities located near the Express Lanes construction corridor. Throughout project construction, the program helped organizations such as Girl Scout Troop 6115, St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and several neighborhood associations in planting trees throughout communities surrounding the 95 Express Lanes project corridor.
