WOODBRIDGE, VA — A man who jumped from a second-story window to escape an apartment fire in Woodbridge is one of several adults ultimately hospitalized due to the blaze on Monday, the Prince William Times reports.
One person was rescued from the three-story Meridian Bay apartments on Fox Lair Drive using a ground ladder, the outlet reports, citing Prince William County Fire and Rescue officials.
Fire officials report they were joined by crews from Fairfax County Fire and Rescue. On arriving, they found fire throughout the common stairwell extending into apartments in the building.
Multiple people were rescued from balconies and several residents were taken to a local hospital for smoke inhalation and other non-life-threatening injuries.
More than two dozen firefighters helped battle the blaze. The fire took more than an hour to put out. Investigators currently believe the fire started on the second or third floor of the complex, WUSA 9 reports.
Twelve units in the building were damaged.
