WOODBRIDGE, VA – Former Prince William County middle school teacher Delia Pruitte pleaded no contest on Tuesday to a reduced charge connected to allegations she threw a shoe at a student, clearing the way for the case against her to be dropped.
Pruitte is accused of taking off her shoe and throwing it at an 11-year-old boy on Dec. 17 at Rippon Middle School in Woodbridge, according to DC News Now. Investigators say Pruitte was talking to the student in a hallway when she took the shoe off and threw it at him, hitting him in the hand.
The incident was captured on school security cameras, the Prince William Times notes.
She was charged with assault and battery in January.
On Tuesday, Pruitte pleaded no contest to an amended charge of trespassing. The court also agreed to a deferred disposition process, in which a verdict in a case is postponed for a period of time and may ultimately be dropped if the defendant meets certain behavioral criteria. The Prince William Times reports that the charges against Pruitte are likely to be dropped in 90 days.
Her next hearing date is Aug. 11.
