Amtrak Faces Injury Lawsuit From Former Employee

The Woodbridge man was hit by a train in April while working on the track.

A Woodbridge man has filed suit against his former employer, Amtrak, for allowing him to get injured at work.

An equipment operator at the Washington terminal in Virginia, David Hilliard says the company did not follow proper safety protocol leading up to his accident, according to The Pennsylvania Record.

Hilliard was struck by a train on April 9, 2014 while working on the track. He says a series of safety violations led to the accident including a distracted watchman, lack of a safety briefing and lack of proper equipment.

Hilliard suffered both internal and external injuries to his head, neck, torso and lower body, according to The Pennsylvania Record, some of which may be permanent. He is seeking $150,000 in damages against Amtrak.
