Security Ramped Up After Attempted Abduction Reported

Unknown man in light blue truck reportedly attempted to grab 13-year-old girl walking home from the bus stop.

Prince William County schools and area police are increasing security after a reported attempted abduction in Woodbridge on Wednesday afternoon.

A 13-year-old girl told police that she was walking home from the bus stop at 3:30 p.m. in the area of Bevanwood Drive and Elkwood Lane.

A man in a light blue truck with lumber in the back reportedly stopped the girl and asked her for directions to a nearby convenience store.

When she gave him directions, the man got out of the truck and grabbed the girl by her shirt, causing the sleeve to rip, according to Sgt. Jonathan Perok, a spokesperson for the Prince William County Police.

The victim broke free of the man’s grasp and ran to her home, where she reported the incident to her family later in the evening. No injuries were reported.

Prince William County Schools and police are stepping up security measures following the report, according to a statement at PWCS on Facebook.

The PWCS statement continued: “Please remind students to avoid talking to strangers or approaching unknown vehicles. Explain how important it is for them to alert you, or another appropriate adult, if they see or hear anything that causes concern or makes them feel uncomfortable. Reinforcing these measures with your student is an important factor in community safety.”

There were no known witnesses to the incident and no other similar incidents were reported, according to Perok.

Officers checked the area and were unable to locate the suspect or the truck.

Police described the suspect as a white male, between 50 and 55 years of age, 5’10”, 160lbs. He had a thin build, long white beard, shaggy hair and a mole on his left cheek.
