"Attractions" Release New Single off Debut Album

Local indie-rock quartet gives a sneak peak to their debut "...Like a Church Mouse"

Attraction's new single, "New Fire" was released on PurevolumeFacebook and Aralie this week.

Along with the single, an instrumental preview of another track "Wait" is the first peek at the local indie-rock quartet's full-length debut, "…Like a Church Mouse."

"It has a lot of big sound post rock feel but also has its natural more to the point indie style rock roots," lead singer and guitarist Josh Teodoro said.

Produced by Mike Douaire and mastered by Roger Lian, "New Fire" has plenty of instrumental sensibility for a 6:14 minute track. "Wait" is queued with "Snow Patrol" droll but elevates to fitting shift and sways.

There are hints of disorientation, but any claustrophobic effects are neutralized. It works for Attractions. Their ability to distinguish appropriate intervals of tension fills out any ambiguities in song structure.

"Attractions strives to be something else entirely," Teodoro's former bandmate Danny Fair said. "Their new single is but a glimpse into what the band has in store for fans and naysayers alike. Taking influence from acts such as Sigur Ros, Mono and Thrice, Attractions uses all of its ability to create something new and distinct."

"New Fire" is proof that Attractions are masterful storytellers as well. "I lay my torches down on the floor, I won't burn this life down anymore, a new fire burning as I sleep, I will wake from this and see everything the way it was meant to be," Teodoro sings.

"Personally, I think the song is a perfect representation of our new musical direction," bassist Aaron Ryder said. "It defines the entire album."

Buried by an aura of ambient guitar spectrums and layered echoes, "New Fire" visibly continues the development of local indie rock and gives the old timers a sigh of relief. They remain true to themselves.

Attractions will be playing their first out of town show on Nov. 4 at the Canal Club in Richmond.
