Baby Kidnapping Foiled In Dumfries: Police

A woman's attempt to kidnap a 3-month-old child, steal a vehicle or both was foiled Saturday in Dumfries: Prince William County Police.

DUMFRIES, VA—A woman's attempt to kidnap a 3-month-old child, steal a vehicle or both was foiled Saturday night in the 3300 block of Dry Powder Circle, according to Prince William County Police. Kamryn Ellyce Simpson, 29, of the aforementioned address, was charged with abduction, grand larceny and conspiracy to commit grand larceny.

Shortly after 7:30 p.m., police responded to the scene for a reported vehicle theft in progress. The victim, told police she was changing her baby's diaper in the back seat of her vehicle while she was standing outside it. But then an unknown woman got into the driver's seat and began to drive the vehicle with the toddler still inside.

The victim, screaming, was able to reach in and snatch her child. Simpson stopped and got out of the vehicle when she was confronted by a witness. She then tried to get into another vehicle before deciding to flee on foot. But when police arrived, they ID'd her after finding her purse in the vehicle, and she was arrested shortly thereafter.
