As I was mowing my grass on this past HOT Wednesday afternoon, I positioned myself under my tree for some relief from the sun. All of a sudden, I felt a "plop" on my shoulder, and I thought, "Did a bird just poop on me?" (but it was more "entertaining" than that) I looked on my shirt and there wasn't the typical white "crap" there, which after the wave of relieve to not have to change my already sweaty shirt, my mind switched to the obvious, "If it wasn't a bird, what was it?" I figured it had something to do with the sounds ALL around the Woodbridge/Dale City area.....those dang CICADAS!!!!!!
I had to laugh at my next though, which was, "Do cicadas spit?" Reason being because about three more times, the same thing happened after I pushed my mower under the same tree. It was to the point where I refused to look UP as I passed under it.
Of course there could have been other functions that cicadas do that could have conducted during that time frame, to included mating (EW!), but I prefer to think that it was spit. Either to get me back for chopping up so many of its relatives with my mower, my windshield, or just to get my attention (LOL).

So if there are any scientists looking for a project, maybe that can be your next question to answer, "DO CICADAS SPIT?" And if they do, can I have a cut of the grant? I just got furloughed.
