Did You Purchase a Mac Book Pro??? Credit Card Fraud Up Close and Personal

My husband and I never buy anything like this without talking to the other first, so I felt sure my answer was NO! even though I had not checked with my husband.

The corporate attendant said that our credit card had been used to order a computer online with delivery to a local Northern Virginia address.   During our phone conversation the attendant was very helpful; I had the feeling she had a great deal of experience in handling situations of this sort.  She gave me all the steps and information I needed to pursue this matter with my bank and the local police department.

When I ended the phone call with Best Buy, I immediately called my bank and alerted them as to the fraudulent charge.  They were still showing the amount as pending and were able to decline the $2000 charge and immediately cancel our credit card to reissue new ones.  They informed me they would start an investigation into the fraudulent charge since it was well over their fraud limit.

Over the next couple of days, my husband and I discussed reporting this to our local police department.  We had fraudulent charges on our credit card several years ago and the bank did nothing to investigate because the amount was under their fraud limit so we were a little reluctant to pursue it this time due to the bank's lack of response previously.  

As we thought back over the events of the weeks prior to the incident, the only time someone could have accessed our credit card was at a restaurant.  Most servers take your credit card away from the table to process it on their credit card machine.  To prevent our card from being compromised in the future, we have decided to only use cash at restaurants.
