Bullet Fired Into Vacant Apartment in Woodbridge: Police

Prince William County Police say more than 20 such incidents, at least, were reported in 2016, and believe stolen guns may be a key cause.

WOODBRIDGE, VA — What is it about firing shots at apartment buildings that apparently seems so appealing to some folks? Whatever the reason, another such incident was reported last Friday, according to Prince William County Police.

This time is happened in the 1200 block of Potomac Vista Drive, when a property manager told police a bullet was lodged in a wall inside a vacant apartment.

Police investigated and found that on Dec. 29, gunshots were heard in the same area about 9 p.m. but no witnesses or any other evidence was found.

The latest incident mirrors a troubling trend, police say, in which more than 20 homes — at least — suffered similar fates last year in the county.

Prince William County Police believe the rash of shots into or at homes is partly due to residents having personal firearms stolen from their homes or vehicles, and offered tips how to avoid such thefts.
