The Historic Sydenstricker Schoolhouse will celebrate National Miniatures Month by hosting a special exhibition presented by Mount Vernon Miniatures with a special exhibit and vintage dollhouse auction.The event is free, open to the public, and offers an immersive look into a fascinating craft that captivates creators and collectors of all ages. Free parking is available on-site and at the church parking lot directly across the street.
·The exhibition will showcase an extraordinary collection of work by local miniature artisans, spanning a diverse array of scales, styles, and media. Visitors will see highly detailed displays, including tiny secret gardens, a lush conservatory, a sweeping Venetian villa, formal room displays, stylized shops, and a charming collection of themed cottages. Guests will marvel at the smallest details, including exquisite dollhouses scaled to fit inside other miniature houses, fully functioning tiny appliances, micro-instruments, miniature toys, and even an operating, tiny model train set.
·In addition to viewing the displays, attendees can explore the rich history and evolution of the miniatures craft. A dedicated hands-on activity table will invite guests of all ages to assemble their own miniature model of the historic schoolhouse to take home. Representatives from the Mount Vernon Miniatures Club will be available to answer questions, share techniques, and discuss their ongoing activities.
·For those looking to kick-start their own collection or find distinctive holiday gifts, a variety of miniature items will be available for purchase.
·A highlight of the event is the official launch of a benefit auction featuring a stunning, vintage dollhouse, which will be on display. The collectible, fully electrified dollhouse has been beautifully restored, and furnished by a professional interior designer in collaboration with the miniatures club. The auction opens for bids on October 3rd, with all proceeds supporting the ongoing preservation and restoration of the schoolhouse as it approaches its landmark 100th birthday in 2028.
