WOODBRIDGE, VA — A house caught fire on Varsity Drive in Woodbridge on Monday evening, according to the fire department. Investigators believe that a candle sparked the blaze.

No injuries were reported. The house suffered moderate damage and the two adult residents were displaced, fire officials said in a report.

Firefighters learned of the fire around 4:30 p.m. on Monday. After arriving on the scene, units extinguished the fire, which was located in the home's basement.

In its report, the fire marshal's office urged residents to use caution when lighting candles.

"The Fire Marshal’s Office recommends against the use of candles. If candles are used, they should never be left unattended," the fire marshal's office said in a news release. "In addition, candles should never be used near combustible materials and always keep out of reach of children and pets."
