A woman was arrested Sunday afternoon after leaving her 3-year-old son outside crying amid intense heat in Dumfries: PWC Police.

DUMFRIES, VA—A woman was arrested Sunday afternoon after leaving her 3-year-old son outside crying amid intense heat in the 17600 block of Hampstead Ridge Court, according to Prince William County Police. Jannie Carlitta Mott, 35, of the same address, was charged with felony child neglect.
Shortly after 5 p.m., police arrived at the scene after a caller reported seeing the child outside his home crying and banging on the front door for 35-30 minutes in temperatures approaching 100 degrees. A resident of the home eventually opened the door and the child went inside.
When the caller attempted to make contact with the resident, a parent opened the door and got into an argument with the caller, after which she called police. The child wasn't injured and was released to the custody of another family member.
