Cop Assaulted During Drug Bust In Woodbridge: Police

A man is being held without bond after twice assaulting an arresting officer in a 7-Eleven parking lot Saturday in Woodbridge: PWC Police.

WOODBRIDGE, VA — A man is being held without bond after twice assaulting an arresting officer in a 7-Eleven parking lot late Saturday night at 4804 Dale Boulevard, according to Prince William County Police. Andrew Thomas Higgins, 26, of the 13400 block of Keytone Drive, was charged with assault and battery on a law enforcement officer, fleeing from a law enforcement officer and public intoxication.

Shortly after 11:30 p.m., an officer on foot patrol spotted a suspicious vehicle in store's parking lot, and when he walked past it, he smelled a strong marijuana odor. The driver and a passenger, Higgins, were ordered out of the vehicle. Higgins was slow to comply, and when he did get out, the pushed the officer and fled.

The officer caught up to him, after which Higgins again tried to push him and again fled. He quickly was apprehended. During the fracas, Higgins received a minor cut on his forehead and was treated at the scene. The driver was charged with possession of marijuana and other unrelated charges from another jurisdiction.
