Cop Struck By Fleeing Vehicle In Dumfries: Police

A man whose vehicle hit a detective while fleeing from a stop in Dumfries was later arrested in Stafford County on drug charges: PWC Police.

DUMFRIES, VA—A man whose vehicle hit a detective while fleeing from a stop in the 17100 block of Old Stage Road was later arrested in Stafford County, according to Prince William County Police. Kevin Bryan Neal, 31, of no fixed address, was charged with assault and battery on a law enforcement officer, felony eluding, driving under the influence, unreasonable refusal and conspiracy to distribute a schedule I or II narcotic.

Shortly after 8 p.m., police spotted a suspicious vehicle in a 7-Eleven parking lot at the aforementioned location. When they approached it, a female passenger opened the door in an attempt to get out but Neal put it in reverse an accelerated. The open door hit a detective in the shoulder while the vehicle sped away from the scene.

Deputies from the Stafford County Sheriff's Office later spotted the vehicle in their jurisdiction and detained Neal shortly thereafter. The female passenger also was inside. An investigation found they were in the area to buy drugs. The Prince William County detective suffered minor injuries.
