The fire alarm activated prior to firefighters arriving alerting residents to the fire and enabling them to evacuate, according to Hylander.

The fire is currently under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s Office.

“Prince William County Department of Fire and Rescue would like to remind residents that Smoke Alarms save lives and your chance of survival doubles when a home contains both smoke alarms and a fire-sprinkler system,” Hylander said.
