Driver Leads Police on Chase with Baby in the Backseat

A Woodbridge man led Fairfax County Police on a chase for over a mile with a baby in the backseat, police said.

The incident began Monday morning about 10:35 a.m. at Richmond Highway and Hassett Street in Lorton, where an officer attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation. The driver failed to stop and attempted to elude the officer, police said.

Officers pursued the suspect and the Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) was utilized bringing the pursuit to an end near the 10000 block of Furnace Road.

According to Wikipedia, the PIT maneuver, or precision immobilization technique, is a pursuit tactic by which a pursuing car can force a fleeing car to abruptly turn sideways, causing the driver to lose control and stop.[1] It was developed and named by the Fairfax County Police Department of Virginia, United States.

The driver was arrested and a 1 year old child was discovered in the backseat of the vehicle. The child did not require require rescue.

Roger Garcia, 31, of Woodbridge, was charged with reckless driving; disregarding an officer’s signal to stop, and felony child endangerment.
