Drunk Man Arrested For Chain-Reaction Crash in Woodbridge: Police

A drunk man who caused a chain-reaction crash that left several people injured was arrested Saturday: Prince William County Police.

WOODBRIDGE, VA — A an apparently drunk man who instigated a four-vehicle crash that left several people injured last Friday in the area of Jefferson Davis Highway and Powells Creek Boulevard and then tried to flee was arrested Saturday, according to Prince William County Police.

William Johnson, 48, of the 100 block of Butternut Street in Stephens City, was charged with one count of maiming another while driving under the influence, three counts of felony hit and run, one count of driving under the influence, one count of unreasonable refusal and one count of reckless driving. He's being held without bond.

Shortly after noon, police responded to the scene in investigate a four-vehicle crash. They found that the driver of a 2011 Jeep was headed north on Jefferson Davis Highway when it struck the rear of a 2011 Toyota Avalon, causing a chain-reaction crash. The jeep then hit a 2007 Honda Odyssed and a 2009 Ford Expedition.

When police arrived, the jeep driver tried to walk away from the scene. Police determined he was intoxicated, and he was detained. The driver of the Avalon, a 48-year-old Fredericksburg man, was taken to a local hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries. Other occupants of the vehicles suffered minor or no injuries.
