Dumfries Man Fatally Shot Roommate on Saturday: Police

DUMFRIES, VA — A Dumfries man fatally shot his roommate on Saturday, the Prince William County Police Department said.

Authorities identified the victim as 43-year-old Derrick Lanell Jordan.

After the shooting, 34-year-old Brandon Harry Edwards turned himself in to police in Washington, D.C. He was charged with murder and use of a firearm in commission of a felony.

Edwards's court date is pending and he is still in custody in Washington, D.C.

If convicted of all charges, Edwards could spend the rest of his life in prison, based on Virginia's sentencing guidelines.

The shooting occurred around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday in the 17200 block of Richmond Highway in Dumfries. Investigators said Jordan and Edwards were in a vehicle in the area when they started arguing.

"During the encounter, the accused shot the victim multiple times before exiting the vehicle and firing multiple more times towards the victim seated in the driver’s seat," the police department said in a report.

First responders took the victim to an area hospital, where he died of his injuries. Edwards left the area before turning himself in to police in Washington, D.C.
