Energy Star Recognition Awarded To Loudoun Schools For 12th Year

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — Loudoun County Public Schools are a 2023 Energy Partner for the 12th consecutive year, the Environmental Protection Agency announced. The award recognized the school system for "sustained excellence" in their environmental and energy efficiency considerations.

In a news release, the Loudoun County Public Schools noted that it is the only school system in the nation to receive the award for more than 10 years.

Cindy Jacobs is the chief of the EPA's Energy Star Commercial and Industrial Branch.

"Your application stood out among many highly competitive submissions this year, demonstrating exemplary commitment and dedication to leadership in energy efficiency," Jacobs told the school system.

Loudoun County Public Schools acknowledged several recent achievements in its EPA application. The school system said it has saved more than $7,200,000 in energy costs and avoided 490,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions over since 1992.

Throughout the county, administrators are working on 15 different conservation measures at 28 school buildings. The measures include automation systems, solar photovoltaic arrays, LED lighting retrofits and replacements, and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) improvements.
