Fatal Wrong-Way Wreck Overturns Tractor Trailer

DUMFRIES, VA — A woman driving the wrong direction on Route 1 died after her vehicle struck a tractor trailer head-on, according to Prince William County Police.

Umme Habiba Begum, 58, of Stafford, was transported to an area hospital where she died a short time later.

At 1:41 p.m. Monday, Begum was driving a 2012 Toyota Rav4, heading east from the Princeton Woods Shopping Center towards Wayside Drive, according to a police statement.

For unknown reasons, her car travelled over the median and across the eastbound lanes, striking two pedestrian signals. The Rav4 then headed north in the southbound lanes on Jefferson Davis Highway, colliding with a 2001 Mack Tractor trailer.

The wreck caused the tractor trailer to overturn, according to police, and a third car was damaged when it was struck by debris.

The other drivers were not injured.

Speed, alcohol and drugs don't appear to be factors in the crash.
