Fiscal Year 2025 Budget Timeline Announced In Prince William County
Prince William County's budget will soon be proposed to determine county services and school funding as well as tax rates.

WOODBRIDGE, VA — Prince William County's budget process will begin Tuesday to determine operating budget funding for county services and staff, school funding, the real estate tax rate and more.
County Executive Chris Shorter will present the proposed 2025-2030 capital budget to the Board of County Supervisors at the 7:30 p.m. meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 13, followed by the proposed fiscal year 2025 operating budget at the 7:30 p.m. meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 20. The fiscal year 2025 budget covers the year between July 1, 2024 and June 30, 2025.
For homeowners, the real estate tax rate and real estate tax assessments factor into tax bills. In last year's budget, the Board of County Supervisors approved a tax rate of $0.966 per $100 of assessed value, down from $1.03 per $100 of assessed value in the previous budget.

The county's budget process also determines county funding for Prince William County Public Schools. PWCS Superintendent LaTanya McDade has proposed a $1.78 billion operating budget, which would be $137 million increase from the current year's budget. The school district's budget would fund salary increases and other priorities. The county's revenue sharing agreement provides 57.23 percent of its general fund to PWCS. Nearly half of the PWCS general fund budget comes from county funding.
Following the county's budget presentation, the Board of County Supervisors will hold numerous meetings, including public hearings, on the budget. An interactive Q&A will be posted on the county's budget web page after the budget presentations. All in-person meetings are in the Board Chambers at the McCoart Administration Building, 1 County Complex Court, in Woodbridge.
