Gar-Field High School PTSO Focuses on New Year
Breakdown of the school's first PTSO meeting in the new school year.
Last night marked Gar-Field High School's first PTSO meeting for the new school year. The first order of business was discussion of the school's new discipline initiative. Treasurer Joanne Hagadorn, whose self-described "quiet son" was doing well in school, learned that one of her son's teachers was working him further than the five-letter system.
"He can do 'A' work," Hagadorn said, pleasantly recalling the conversation. "But he can do more than that."
Everyone supported the initiative on the same notion of students earning their potential, and went on.

New business centered on the Eastern Prince William Country College Fair and a new idea for a Gift Card Fair.
The Gift Card Fair is an opportunity to raise funds. The PTSO plans on selling gift cards from a few vendors, and keeping a percentage of sales.

Besides the need for volunteers at Homecoming, the upcoming yard sale dominated much of the time.
With Craigslist, Facebook and Patch being cited as avenues for promotion, the group progressed, once more, towards food. The members struggled to decide what to charge the food vendors, tentatively settling on taking a percentage out of food sales.
