Girl Made Up Report Of Attack Saying Head Scarf Was Removed: PD

Police say a 13-year-old girl wearing a head scarf made up a report that she was assaulted and called a terrorist.

WOODBRIDGE, VA— Police have charged a 13-year-old Woodbridge girl after they say she falsely reported a hate crime. According to police, the girl claimed she was assaulted at knifepoint and called a "terrorist" by a man who she also alleged took off her hijab, or head scarf, but she made up the incident.

Police said earlier that the girl claimed she was assaulted at knifepoint and called a "terrorist" by a man Friday afternoon in the area of Jato Court and Riverview Lane. The girl was wearing a head scarf and police initially said they believed she was targeted because of her religious attire.

Police said that after further investigation, a school resource officer and detectives determined the victim made up the encounter with the unknown man. Police said that no altercation occurred.
