Victim Dies After Gunfight Outside Woodbridge Apartment Complex On Sunday: Police

A gunfight left one victim with fatal injuries outside of a Woodbridge apartment complex on Sunday afternoon, authorities said.

WOODBRIDGE, VA — A man was shot and killed outside the Misty Ridge apartments in Woodbridge on Sunday afternoon, the Prince William County Police Department said.

Authorities identified the victim as 25-year-old Michael Eugene Hawkins III.

The police department has not publicly identified any suspects in connection with the shooting. Officials have also not provided any suspect description or announced any arrests.

The shooting occurred around 2:45 p.m. on Sunday outside the Misty Ridge apartments on Lost Canyon Court in Woodbridge. Investigators believe Hawkins and another man had an argument in front of the apartment complex due to an "ongoing dispute."

Authorities said Hawkins and the other man exchanged gunfire, and a round struck Hawkins in the abdomen. The suspect left the area after the shooting, according to the police report.

Police officers arrived and provided first aid for Hawkins. Fire and rescue personnel took Hawkins to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.

"Detectives are currently following up on leads into the investigation and suspect," the police department said in a news release. "More information will be released when available."
