Residents looking to dispose of their Christmas trees can take their tree to any of three different facilities in Manassas and Gainesville.

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA — As Christmas comes and goes, you may wonder when is the best time to put out your Christmas tree on the curb. Depending on how early you got your tree, it may be starting to dry out.
In Prince William County, residents can have their tree picked up from the curb during the first two full weeks of January. To participate, residents can leave their tree curbside on their yard waste collection day. All refuse collection companies are required by the county to pick up yard waste, though the designated collection day may vary.
Curbside pick-up isn't the only option available to Prince William County residents. For those who would like to be rid of their tree before January, three facilities in Manassas and Gainesville are accepting trees now.

The National Fire Protection Association recommends taking your Christmas tree outside after Christmas or when the tree is dried out, as dried-out trees can create a fire hazard. Dried-out trees should not be left inside a home or garage or leaning against a home.

Prince William County officials are also urging residents to check their trees for signs of the spottted lanternfly, an invasive insect. Mulching or composting a tree helps prevent the spread of invasive species.
