Human Remains Found After Townhouse Fire

Body of victim recovered Thursday after fire destroyed home Wednesday morning, according to Prince William County Police.

WOODBRIDGE, VA — Human remains were found Thursday after a Wednesday-morning fire destroyed a townhouse, according to Prince William County Police.

The identity of the victim will not be released until it has been confirmed by the state Medical Examiner's Office.

Fire crews responded to 14635 Ponderosa Court at 2:42 a.m. Wednesday, and had the fire under control within an hour, according to the Occoquan Woodbridge Lorton Volunteer Fire Department.

They determined Wednesday morning that one resident of the home was unaccounted for. But crews were unable to get into the home to search due to the structural safety concerns.

The fire is being jointly investigated by the Prince William County Police Homicide Unit and the Department of Fire and Rescue’s Fire Marshals’ Office.
