LAKE RIDGE, VA — A fire at a townhouse in Lake Ridge displaced three people on Friday afternoon, the fire department said. Authorities believe the blaze began as a cooking fire.

One resident, a woman, suffered minor injuries in the fire. First responders took her to an area hospital for treatment.

The fire broke out around 2 p.m. on Friday afternoon in the 3000 block of Sunny Brook Court in Lake Ridge. When firefighters arrived on the scene, the residents had already evacuated. There was also smoke emerging from the home, authorities said.

"The kitchen fire was quickly confirmed and extinguished," the Prince William County Department of Fire and Rescue said in a news release. "The fire caused moderate damage."

The county building official said the home was unsafe to occupy. The American Red Cross is helping the three displaced residents, two adults and a child.

Investigators said the blaze was an accidental kitchen fire.
